Guideline for use of Ootacamund Club for Guest of Members and Affiliated Members :

To facilitate your visit at the Ooty Club as a guest or affiliated member we request you to familiarise yourself with the some of the rules and expectation the club and its members have of you during your visit. We request you to go through the same for you to have an enjoyable visit to the club.

The following rules and regulations that form a part of the club’s Bye Laws are applicable to all categories of members and their guests:

“Ladies and gentlemen received in general society may be entertained in the public rooms of the Club on not more than twelve occasions in a calendar year, on the responsibility of their hosts. The Committee may, however, give general permission for the admission of non-memberson the occasion of any particular entertainment; such occasion shall not count against the twelve permissible visits”.

The day time dress code in all public rooms shall be smart casuals.

Shirts without collars, shorts, torn jeans, track pants and chappals are not permitted.

The dress code for members and their guests in all public rooms, after 8 pm. shall be formal national dress or a lounge suit, or jacket / blazer with a tie / cravat. Ladies are expected to be attired appropriately.

Smart casuals are permitted in the smoker's bar at all times.

If you are visiting the club with children please be aware of the Club rules for children as listed below.

Children of Permanent and Temporary Members are permitted, to use the Club grounds and chambers under the following conditions:
  • Parents are solely responsible at all time for their own children.They must ensure that the Bye-Laws are observed both in letter and in spirit, and that the children do not create a nuisance or interfere with the Club Organization.
  • A parent or member who shall be solely responsible, shall accompany the children.
  • The Committee or Secretary may debar a child from using the Club at any time, at their discretion and the Committee's decision shall be final.
  • Children below 12 years are only admitted in the following sections of the Club. The Chambers allotted to parents, the main verandah, the children's dining room and the children’s day-room.

Visitors to the club with infants, should be aware that Private staff of members or their guests, shall not be permitted anywhere within the main Club premises or residential rooms. Drivers must confine themselves to the parking area. Except as above, the said private staff shall not be permitted to any of the public Rooms or the Kitchen or Pantry or in any Residential Chambers and are not permitted to interfere in any way with the Club’s organization.

Members and their Guests may also note the following when using the Club’s facilities or visiting the club:
  • Guests / Affiliated members utilising the chambers are not permitted to entertain any guests.
  • The use of Mobile Phones is not permitted within the Club’s Public areas and building, it is recommended to keep your phone switched off or on silent mode when you enter the club.You may use your mobile phone on the Veranda’s outside the main building, please be considerate to the people beside you when using your mobile phones.
  • If your guest is paying for the use of the facilities themselves and the amount is not being debited directly to the Members account, it is required for them to obtain a Preloaded smart card to avail the facilities at the club, this may be done at the reception or the office. For refund of amounts charged to the smart card by credit or debit card, this will be rolled back to the respective Debit or Credit card account only in accordance with the bank rules. Refund of cash may be collected during office hours at the Accounts department of the club.
  • In the event a member is hosting numerous guests at the club, it is important that the Member informs his guests the expected decorum and etiquette of the Ootacamund Club.Further it is important to keep in mind that the Public areas, are Public areas and the club does not permit members to host private parties, exclusively on its premises. It is important therefore, that other members who may be present at the club are not offended by the conduct of the members guest, or act in a manner contrary to the expected etiquette of the club.
  • Whilst in the Dining Room and other such areas, please ensure that the tone and volume of conversation at the table is confined to the table used by you and your guest and do not disturb others in the dining room. Maintaining decorum in these public areas, so that, other members and their guests are not inconvenienced or disturbed, is critical to all members and their guests using the club’s facilities.
  • The club mostly specializes in continental cuisine, including breakfast; the club does entertain other requests for more ethnic food if they are informed in advance. Please brief your guest on the requirement to inform the club of their preference on such matters well in advance.

Guests must understand that as a member you subscribe to the rules, regulations and expected conduct in the club, the club is as it is today because all its members conform to these rules and expected conduct whilst in the club. You are introducing your guest to have them share and experience the Ootacamund Club, hence it is important for them to understand and respect the heritage and traditions of the club and this will help them enjoy their visit to the club.
